Hardlines Design Company (HDC) conducted extensive fieldwork to inventory and evaluate over 300 buildings at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, constructed from 1945 through 1989 for both National Register and Cold War significance. Building types surveyed included barracks, hangars, administration buildings, munitions bunkers, training facilities, and maintenance shops. HDC conducted literature review in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. and Southern California, and went through base construction drawings, real estate records, newspapers, and photographs. In addition to the technical report, HDC also prepared State of California inventory forms and a signed Programmatic Agreement for the treatment of identified historic buildings. HDC then completed GIS mapping and database production in accordance with base standards.
