Hardlines Design Company (HDC) completed a National Register assessment for over 60 civil works housing units located throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The housing was originally constructed to accommodate damtenders and lockkeepers at federal facilities. HDC prepared state inventory forms, a multiple property nomination package, and individual nomination forms. The sites included historic archaeological sites, historic landscapes, and standing structures. The project received 2000 Buchanan Award from the Vernacular Architecture Forum.
